Incidentally, the term "Zerst+¦rer" in German is a literal translation of "destroyer" and also both means a person breaking stuff as well as a ship class. I dream in colour, but I never have blood in my dreams. This is pretty interesting, actually, since I talked with a lot of people, maybe about 2/3 of my friends, who also never see blood in their dreams- no matter how gross the nightmare gets, people are more like clay dolls, they get bruised, decapitated, dismembered- but never a single drop of blood.

Well, get ready for a crazy fun ride.
The other day my daughter was in my lap looking at my father's day card and she kept pointing to the center of the flowers and saying ball, baall, ball. With the experience I've had with insurance and vehicles. A 13 year old minivan is like a bic lighter. Insurance companies view them the same way. Next time, instead of hitting the brakes, I'll hit the damned thing harder and at least get a haunch of venison out of the deal. We can't do that in the UK, if we kill a deer with a car we're not allowed to pick it up for food purposes, but the next person along is.
That is kind of silly. Only a lunatic would hunt deer with their vehicle lmao!!! |

pffff, that just shows that dogs typically have much less independence. It does not rule out that cats have a strong attachment to their owner. I had an outdoor cat as a teenager that would arrive in the yard immediately after I would return home from work in the evenings, every evening. All my cats would hunt and bring their kills to me. My cats can survive on their own if for some reason I never make it home again, my dogs would survive much less time. That is all the research says and what the researcher says himself.
All pets personalities follow along a spectrum just like humans. The debate between cat and dog enthusiasts is moronic at best as it revolves around such a wide variety of personal preferences. I know many dogs that are self absorbed little *****.....and cats as well, that does not change the fact that I 'prefer' cats....typically.....and enjoy dogs if they are someone else's. |

" This is no longer an "isolated incident", Idiot ! 2006 (Baltimore): Man sits behind victim in movie theater, shoots him in head, hollers for everyone to stay down, fires three more shots. 2006 (Pittsburgh): A screening of "Get Rich or Die Tryin" ends when one man fatally shoots another in the lobby after a trip to the restroom. 2008 (Philadelphia): Man enraged by noisy family in movie theater throws popcorn at son, shoots father. 2008 (Raleigh, N.C.): Masked man tries to rob theater, fatally shoots owner. 2010 (Daly City, Calif.): A man shoots three people outside a Bay Area movie theater, including a pregnant woman. 2011 (Tuscaloosa, Ala.): Teen shoots another teen in movie theater parking lot. 2012 (Aurora, Colo.): Man opens fire at midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 12 people and injuring 59 others. 2014 Today's nonsense.
When compared to total exposures those shootings are not even a drop in the bucket. Not that I advocate violence, but using isolated incidents to drive fear based change is not a good idea.
This is kind of like telling people that flying is dangerous even though the number of crashes are very few, in comparison to total number of flights, and that the survival rate of passengers in all combined plane crashes is well over 75% if my memory serves me correctly.

Things can go wrong mechanically with airplanes all the time. Unexpected things. We all know this. And it's a completely different paradigm as an issue than the movie theater shootings. They are occurring because of our almost complete lack of laws around gun ownership. It is very preventable, unlike tragic mechanical surprises. So, it's better to just "be OK" with Americans slaughtering each other in public ? Also, the airplane is incapable of "deliberate killing", unlike humans. These are not even comparable situations.
We are safer than any time in man's history in my most honest opinion, even with this apparent surge in shootings. I also live in what was the murder capital of the US numerous times and never let that keep me off the streets at night. So yes I disagree that this should worry me.
As it has to do with the Tampa shooting last night, If the one guy had just let the other individuals use his phone and never said anything their would have been zero escalation. Mind your own freaking business people. If it was ruining your experience he should have not returned to his seats. He would have been compensated. But no he had to go back and escalate.
I was not comparing the deaths Krix, I was using that as an example of how people hear bad things and then think it is some enormous problem. Again I do not advocate violence, but the numbers to make me worry any more than getting into my car are not there. I am sad that you feel the need to recluse yourself because of the myriad of things that 'could' go wrong when you step out your door in the morning.
Maybe I am slightly more desensitized, but I think most cities in this world are a far cry safer then they were in 1890. SO I am not letting gun homicides keep me from living my life. |

Thats hardcore for me. I switch to long pants at around 30F. It's cause I'm delicate....
It really is a matter of my work. I don't like the restriction of pants, even athletic pants. I work with severely handicapped people and I am twisting, turning, lifting.... and I also get hot fast as my adrenaline is always pumping. I force these people hard in extremely unbalanced situations and there are often times where I get amped as one almost falls. It is exhausting work.

That's the new model of Post-Reaganomic "trickle down". When you want more corporate profit....change the rules.... turn the populace upside down and shake vigorously until even more money falls out. What happens when there is no more money to be had by shaking even harder ?
Just started a thread. Basically ISP's can charge providers like Netflix a lot more money for their service...the consumers eat the cost.

In other words, if a new company comes along wanting stream movies out, they must now make a deal with their own access provider, who now can charge them more for providing that service for them. This affects the rich and the poor. But makes the providers much richer indeed.
The company does not even need to be new.

If I am going to be totally honest. I stopped caring about the Oscar's a very long time ago. I can not even remember. I am 37 to give you a gauge. Then years later, as my man crush with Johnny Depp's acting increased, it was confirmed when I realized that Depp had not been nominated once. He has been nominated 3 times since that realization, but yes the Oscar's are a joke....in my opinion.

That is probably the best option. The education system here needs a total system swipe and reboot. Much more so than guns need banning. 'Fixing' the education system would probably save more lives, within many all causes of mortality. The anti gun lobby are trying to drop the national murder rate by 2% points to get inline with most European countries. Admirable, but me thinks there is a better way funnel funding to save more peoples lives at a much greater drop rate than 2%.
*Warning: Extreme Option: Gun safety courses should be mandatory for all citizens. I also say, in an extremist fashion, that if a child gets killed by one of their own family's guns, because the adults were not cautions enough to make sure they were unattainable by their children, that the adult that is legally responsible for the gun suffers the same consequence. |

The problem is that a lot of these areas where this nonsense goes on, mostly the Rural Deep South, has a gun culture so ingrained, it's hard to get any changes initiated at all.
The folks (almost "clans"...look at the Duck Dynasty lifestyle and dynamics) have now been ingrained in their way of life for over 300 YEARS in some cases, back to pre-Revolutionary War times.
It's just the culture and they will not ever listen to anybody telling them what to do in any way shape or form with their guns, even as far as safety goes.
Sad. Short of perceived "dictatorial measures", it's almost impossible to knock this kind of ingrained tradition out of a culture.
The high level of military indoctrination that goes on in the South perpetuates the situation as well.
As it has to with gun control and the severe limiting of acquisition of certain firearms, I have discussed this topic from your side with many pro gun advocates. In those discussions these individuals cry that they should still have the right to buy certain automatic weapons. I then bring up the fact that most of them can build the same gun on their own and create the charges for them. Then a little light pops on in their heads. Most of them have no intention of using those weapons for anything other than self defense/protecting their property, and when I when I remind them their capabilities they start to loosen up on the thoughts on anti gun restrictions. Not a huge dent, but again the education system is where the ball has ultimately been dropped....not that it is the teachers fault either; they have their hands tied in my opinion.

Live in South Florida for 4 years. The first time I went to Ft. Lauderdale was in December. I was dressed in shorts, sandels and I button up shirt half open. Everyone else was in long coats, hats, gloves and still saying it was cold. It was probably 70 degrees and I was in heaven and definitely flagged as a neutral. |

Actually if you look at the smaller picture lower in the article it does actually look like there was a partition there before. The middle tile line definitely looks like there was a broader object that had been attached to the wall. The tile is definitely marred in a thickness that likens to bathroom partitions. Plus I see a few 'blemishes' that look like they were filled with screws/fasteners prior to the picture.

Yeah what he puts out there is complete tripe, but he does have instrumental talent out the wazzo. That is what I want to see him developed. But to your main point. I believe the music industry was looking for new ways to do the same thing they have been doing since 1960's, which is a cyclical rehash of previous time frames music with the addition of the newest tech to make it sound just a little bit different.
But there is plenty of good music still that does not use auto tune out there. One will not find it on the radio very often.
For example this is a fun video and song that shows that even simple can be beautiful.

Dennis Leary actually contains himself, and does a really good job in his role, as well.
The Sci Fi channel did a 2 large mini series that covered the original three books. They did a bang up job in my honest opinion.
For example. There is one part of the book that is integral in the evolution of Paul's character. When him and his mother end up out on the dunes at night after they had to escape their dwellings. The original movie did not cover this small but very important part and the sci-fi channel accentuated it. It is probaly 3.5 out of 5 as the acting could be better, but it is a far cry better than the original.

Very long weekend. We also had really difficult classes, so the trick was figuring out how to do all your course work in the few hours you were sober every day. It was kind of a gauntlet, so many kids failed out in the first year because they couldn't handle the drinking combined with hard classes
I made it with the tri-fecta with the tweeds I also had all 8 am classes every day as I covered athletics for emergency care and had to be in the training room and on the field before the athletes. The benefit was that we also got preferential registration and got all the good classes and first pic of the professors.

Ain't nothing going to happen IMHO.

About half a block down the major street I use everyday to go anywhere, there is a Used European Auto sales place. Been there for years, probably decades. Probably about 15 guys working there, including one of my building neighbors, and I would guess about 150 import cars on the lot.
I'm always hearing the trucks pull up and idle for hours sometimes as they are loading and unloading new ones and all that. It's pretty obvious, especially as it is usually done in the early evenings after closing. One can't not be aware of it.
Anyway, I of course had walked past it yesterday about 4 PM on my way to the corner store, and all was normal with the place as usual. In other words, nothing going on of note.
This morning, I turn the corner and approach it down the sidewalk.
The lot is utterly empty. Not a car in sight. There isn't even a potato laying around.
The main building and the shops are quite boarded up on the doors and windows with plywood sheets.
It looks like it was abandoned awhile ago.
I promise you there was not the noise at all ever last night as this place was cleared out, complete with hammering of all that wood and stuff. It's literally only about 200 feet from my apartment proper.
It's just the strangest thing yet I've experienced in Flori-duh.

One of the new Woodstocks, Bonnaroo 2014 has an interesting line up. A couple raise eyebrows, but over all a list that consists of non-main stream musicians. |

I disagree. The music scene in Richmond, Va is as vibrant as ever. With technology as easy to attain now a days musicians are able to play what and how they like. True musicians no longer have to ***** themselves to the producers to get their music made. The real musicians hit the road, produce their own albums, sell them at shows and keep a large portion of their 'profit'. When they play the right club, at the right time and someone sees them, they are much more capable of empowering themselves as they are more seasoned than their counterparts in the past. They are then much more capable negotiating contracts that are much more beneficial to them than their counterparts in the past. |

You mean aside from University? *golfclap* Bravo!
I would agree, other than the fact I got the distinct feeling most of my professors were typically conservative when I was in college.
It seems funny to me that the Neo Cons push this thought process even though they went through the same Universities. It is like they believe they were the only smart ones that were able to escape their liberal grasp |

I did not claim it as a music center in the likes of Nashville, LA, or New York, but for a smaller city, one that is centered around the arts, it has one of the more diverse music scenes in the south....by far.
Granted this link is for Va as a whole, the concentration is heavy in Richmond and the surrounding Tri Cities and suburbs. |

Krixtal Icefluxor wrote:Kryptik Kai wrote:Hrm... "crack factor" and "bring in loads of curious diners"... What kind of person who hasn't smoked crack would think that crack has a curiosity factor that just draws people to it? The thing is everyone is pretty aware of how instanltly addicting that stuff is. And it is instantly addicting. And does nothing but make one want even more. They are just stupidly equating that with food cravings now. And one is not going to see "crack factor" on ads or anything. It's now an industry marketing term though apparently.
From personal experience, it is mostly addicting because the person that gets addicted to it is in a state of mind where they will become addicted. If, an adult that knows what self control is, gets involved with crack because they want to 'play' with drugs, the chance for addiction is on the lower side.
The high is quick, intense, and quite enjoyable. That being said if you are not depressed about something the down is not that bad, but if you have something to be down about the cycle is very hard to break....with any substance or feel good action. When you are high you are able to 'forget' that which troubles the mind; when you come down all that floods back into the head.
It just so happens that crack is a 'lower' income drug that plagues the lower classes who typically have a lot to 'run' from, so the numbers 'show' that crack users are typically more 'addicted' than users of *******. But I hazard that the levels are actually equal, it is just that there is little social stigma pinned to upper class users of *******.
It was about 7 years ago that the Federal Board of sentencing ruled that possession charges from crack and ******* finally be brought in line with each other. They could no longer ignore the science that shows that ******* and crack are the same thing. One just has a faster delivery method and has a 'shady' back story.
As for the withdrawal from ******* vs opiates. There is not a comparison to be made honestly. You can look up videos of the withdrawal of ******. ******* withdrawal is a walk in the park compared to ****** or alcohol for that matter.
The instantly addicting 'upper' drug is crystal meth and even that is questionable at least from the aspect of starting with snorting vs smoking or shooting. If you start smoking meth....that is probably a completely different story in which I have no urge to learn from experience. Meth is the real problem. |

I read the book years ago and I watched the film. I think that the movie did an pretty good job at presenting the book and Card's philosophical intentions. That being said when I read the book the only thing that made me even think it was a book for kids was because the book was short and it was about kids. Most children are not ready to actually understand the underlying tones that Card was trying to get across. There are exceptions, but I really do not think it is a book that was meant to be directed towards children.....by the writer at least.

Thank goodness Heinlein had already passed. He would have had a fit at the fascistic ideas that replaced what he called his Libertarian philosophy. But really, that point isn't ultimately that different.
I have not read the book and find it odd that the movie that was presented came from a book that pushed libertarianism. Libertarianism is a liberal philosophy where fascism is typically conservative. The movie definitely presented a conservative fascist government. That being said fascism can be liberal in basis as well.
*paraphrase of Satre* I would rather live under a liberal fascist government, of which you may find in America's future, versus the conservative fascism found under Mussolini.

Krix, here are two jewels of movies I recently found. I am not sure if you have seen them or not. The director impressed me with both movies and I watched them both within two days without knowing they were directed by the same guy.
Bronson : NSFW due to language but an awesome scene none the less.
Bronson Trailer : SFW and much better representation of the whole movie.
